the problem with that is we wont get anyone that plays at home to come in. who wants to pay to play in a tourney(buying the lan time) when the prize doesnt even compensate them for it. if you take our FNM drafts for eg. first place gets 6 packs. that's about $21.00 and they only pay $9.00 to get in. with the proposed prize structure for the cs tourney, competitors are losing money even if they win... not to mention for employees it would just be another day of cs(no entry fee at all, and an unusable prize)...

in responce to eddie's last post, saying that "they'd be paying to play cs anyways" isn't true for our non-regular customers, who are the people we need to convince to come play in the tourney. i think it would be better if we had an entry fee, and a monetary prize instead of lan time. a lot of cs players(that dont play at lans all the time) dont like playing at lans cause they cant alter their cfg files and such... so lan time has no appeal to them. i dunno, i guess we could do it the way you guys have set up, but i dont think we'd bring in many new people. a cs tourney isn't really go good way to get new customers anyways tho for the reasons above... WHAT A DILEMMA! [Hrmph] [Frown] [Mad]

I agree with Connor's point. It's hard to pick prizes without knowing how many rounds there will be and how long the rounds will take. Suppose you play for 40 minutes each match. That's 8 5 minute rounds, or 4 rounds with each team playing both the T and the CT side. I doubt you'd have more than 3 matches - so the tournament ends up lasting 2 hours. In that case, you could give away 4 hours for first, 3 hours for 2nd and 2 hours for third. Third place basically gets their time back, and 2nd place comes out ahead.

If the matches are expected to last longer, we can increase the prize structure.

Personally, as long as the tournament is on a day that's usually kind of slow, I have no objection to a generous prize structure as far as LAN time goes.

Also, I drop my objection to letting EU play. I think we should simply change the prize structure to reward 2nd and 3rd place heavily. If a clan shows up that can beat EU, they deserve a good prize.

I think the best thing to do is have a swinging prize structure, sorta like we have for magic constructed tourneys. The more teams, the bigger the prize.

And as far as what day it should be on, I still think sunday mid-afternoon is the best.

i still dont think computer hours is a good prize for a cs tourney. giving out hours to people that play at home wont really do anything for them. even store credit would be better. although $cash$ $money$ would be best.

hold on, brain started up again.

what about alternative prizes. like, x amount of $ OR x+w/e amount of store credit, OR computer time. i think that would work well. our regs could get a lot of computer hours, employees could get a little credit, and the strangers emerging from their rooms to test themselves can walk away with a little cash.

you could give $x cash, $x+.25x store credit, or x/1.5 computer hours.

just my 2 influence(help me tompos! [Mad] ).

ps. we need to set up a few Eudos in Europe, we'd make a killing! these guys are charging up to €7.50 an hour(about $9.00) and they're comps are crap.
