True. There has also been a been an upsurge in Heroclix games, but you could also walk over to Comic Review and actually read the comics instead
The board game naturally lacks the atmosphere and the pacing of the videogame, but it definitely gives off the endless horde of zombies aspect. And for folks who might lack videogame twitch skills, don't want the nightmare images poured directly into their heads, or simply like strategizing- this is a good option.

Actually, I haven't played Frag. I heard there was some serious bad-will between the creator and the person who ended up with the rights for it...
As far as Doom:
Typically a "level" is something around an hour to 2 hours depending on how many players you have. I've only gotten to play it with one of my friends so far, but I've heard reports that it goes quicker when you have more people.
Neat points in play:
-You get 2 "Marine Cards" at the beginning of play, these give you special abilities for your hero. Figuring out what weapons and roles work best for your guy and everyone else's is a fun strategy ("Give HIM the chainsaw, he's got Close Combat Specialist!").
-Monsters can "spawn" anywhere that's out of line of sight. Makes you paranoid. Spreading out means that the monsters have to spawn further away- but that also means you're spread out.
-Monsters are assigned to rooms, but others can only be spawned if the GM("Invader") pulls Spawn cards. But, because the GM is pulling cards every turn, you have a reason to not to spend too much time milling around.
-It's fun to pop in either the Godzilla 2000 soundtrack for tension or the Halo 2 soundtrack for action
